Less sleep could surely lead to a tiring day and grogginess, but a recent study has revealed that sleep deprivation could also result in the consumption of unhealthy or more food, as it also makes you hungrier.
According to doctors and health experts, our hormones are directly impacted, which forces us to consume more food the next day. Along with this, we start to crave ‘unhealthy foods’ when we’re tired.
The issue was addressed by Dr Nancy Foldvary with Cleveland Clinic, who outlined that if an individual is dealing with irregular sleep, then he or she must create a regular nighttime routine, which includes sleeping and getting up at the same time every day. Besides this, she also outlined that lessening the amount of caffeine could also help in building a desired routine.
While elaborating on the fact, Foldvary mentioned, “Caffeine can have a widely variable half-life. It can linger in the central nervous system far beyond what you might expect, and so some of us are really sensitive to that and really can’t have caffeine beyond early morning. Certainly, drinking caffeine or eating foods with caffeine — including chocolate — after noon or 2 pm is likely to lead to some sleep fragmentation,” as per WKBN Youngstown.

In addition to this, Dr. Nancy Foldvary also asked people dealing with irregular sleep patterns to consult a sleep specialist for help.
